Our toy sanitization process

Clean. Safe. Ready to Play.

At ToySwap, your child’s safety and well-being are our top priorities. That’s why every toy returned to us undergoes a comprehensive 4-step sanitization process — carefully designed in accordance with Singapore’s Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA) Infection Control Guidelines.

We go beyond the basics to ensure every toy is cleaned, disinfected, and ready for its next playdate.

Step 1

Receiving and Inspecting the Toy

Every returned toy is carefully examined for wear, damage, and cleanliness.

We check:

  • Any missing parts or choking hazards

  • Residual dirt or sticky residue Whether the toy requires deep cleaning or removal from circulation

  • Whether the toy requires deep cleaning or removal from circulation

Only toys that pass our safety inspection move on to sanitization.

Step 2

Cleaning with Child-Safe, Food-Grade Detergents

Toys are cleaned using mild, ECDA-compliant, food-grade cleaning agents that are safe for young children.

  • Non-toxic and hypoallergenic cleaners

  • No alcohol, bleach, or harsh chemicals

  • Hand-washed or wiped down based on material type

  • Rinsed thoroughly to prevent residue buildup

This step removes all visible dirt and organic matter — a crucial prerequisite before disinfection, as per ECDA standards.

Step 3

UV-C Light Disinfection

We use UV-C sterilization boxes to achieve 360° disinfection.

  • Eliminates 99.9% of bacteria, viruses, and germs

  • No moisture or heat involved — safe for most materials

  • UV exposure times follow ECDA’s recommended duration for effective sanitation

This method is widely used in hospitals and childcare centers, offering chemical-free disinfection while protecting your child’s sensitive skin.

Step 4

Final Safety Check & “Sanitized & Ready” Tag

Once cleaned and disinfected, each toy goes through a final quality control check:

  • No lingering odors or residue

  • Cleanliness confirmed visually and by touch

  • Packaging handled with clean gloves

Toys are then labeled with a “Sanitized & Ready” tag, meaning they are clean, safe, and ready for the next child.

Following National Guidelines for Toy Hygiene

Our sanitization protocol follows the ECDA’s Infection Control Guidelines for early childhood environments in Singapore. This includes:

  • Routine disinfection of toys between users

  • Use of safe, approved cleaning agents

  • UV disinfection as a validated method

  • Immediate removal of damaged or uncleanable toys

By aligning with ECDA, we ensure our toy library maintains the highest hygiene and safety standards trusted by childcare professionals.
